Trends in textile design: from natural harmony to new cosmic worlds

As part of the business program of the "INTERFABRIC-2024. Autumn" exhibition expert session "Trends in textile design from Europe to Asia" was held. The speaker was Maria Belova, the head of the WilliZ project and the WilliZ International Online School for Decorators and Designers.
Current topics were discussed at the event: ideas and trends in both models and technologies following visits to the most iconic interior exhibitions in the world; new models and combinations in curtains, pillows, bedspreads and furniture upholstery; basic color schemes in the interior; textures and combinations of ornaments; emphasis on sewing technology and details in decoration.
Maria Belova, a columnist for international textile exhibitions and owner of the Prosto fabric collection, covered the trends of the next season fully and voluminously. According to Maria, the motto of 2025 is "Nothing ordinary! Boredom and ordinariness are not in fashion." Among the most relevant trends are copper fabric, voluminous, with memory effect; sequins; space history; dune: new worlds, star wanderer, escapism from the real world.

As for the color scheme, lilac and purple are still relevant, but in 2025 - in combination with gold. Terracotta (not brick-saturated, but a softened, more natural color), swamp greens, earthy tones are also in fashion. And the main trend is red. This is a kind of "new black", it comes to fashion clothes, like all trends, earlier than in interiors. Red combined with deep blue is one of the most interesting combinations. Next season, holographic fabrics for clothing and "humor" – "winking" in the interior and clothing will be extremely relevant.
Maria Belova believes that textile trends should meet the needs of people who want to be happy, looking for colors of harmony and joy. Therefore, the following topics are acutely relevant:

  • natural harmony,
  • return to the origins,
  • peace and tranquility,
  • recycling and reuse,
  • oyster shells, algae.
"In 2025, imperfect is the new Perfection. We do not strive for the ideal but enjoy life. Therefore, unpainted wool and other similar materials, raw stone or as if processed by primitive tribes are in fashion," the expert concluded.
